What is a Pit Bike/Mini Bike?

We get this question quite a bit. So here is a little "Pit Bike 101"
The term "Pit Bike" came from motocross riders who rode mini 50cc bikes around the pits at the motocross races. This was more convenient than riding your actual race bike and a lot easier than pedaling a bicycle. Then began the evolution of the pit bike and pit bike racing. Leave it up to motocross riders to push the sport! Now it has become the bike of choice for recreational riders an 1st time dirt bike owners.

Why? Here are a few reasons that it makes more sense to own a pit bike.

  • Affordable (Most pit bikes cost thousands less than a tradition dirt bike.)

  • Easier to learn how to ride (Because of the size, pit bikes are very easy to learn how to ride)

  • Easier to haul (This is an obvious one! Pit bikes can fit in an SUV, Trucks and most car trunks)

  • Easier to maintain (Because they are 4 strokes you can run straight unleaded gas. Working on pit bikes is not very hard since there are less parts than a traditional motorcycle. We have even heard that most lawn mower mechanics can fix most pit bikes!)

  • Ride in smaller area's (As riding area's shrink with development it gets harder and harder to find a place to ride. With a little open area you can have a lot of fun on a pit bike)

Because of the many similarities between pocket racers and mini dirt bikes, it’s easy to mistake or confuse one with the other. Both are mini-bikes and like its cousin the pocket racer, the mini dirt bike stands about two feet tall and is short enough (lengthwise) to fit easily in the trunk of a car. The 4 stroke air-cooled engine is fast becoming a standard with gas-powered minibikes including both the pocket rocket and the mini dirt bike. Both pocket racer and mini dirt bikes will carry a payload of up to 300 pounds, although both are light enough to carry under your arm (if you’re into carrying instead of riding!). Nevertheless, the similarities end there. No disrespect meant to the pocket rocket, but frankly, when it comes to hill climbing, free styling, and off-road riding, the mini dirt bike will leave the pocket rocket in the dust!

This tough little dirt devil features the style of its big brother the traditional dirt bike. Built for durability, the lightweight mini dirt bike is heavy on performance when it’s time for tough off-road action. Extra seat padding (a must if you want to avoid monkey butt!) and cushy suspension give you a comfortable ride as you bounce over the roughest terrain on extra heavy duty tires. Although the stock mini dirt bike will typically max out at about 50 MPH because of its extremely light weight, it has the thrust to propel you into  big air at the top of every hill.
